Afternoon thunderstorm clouds gather above red rock formations near Sedona, Arizona. Sand laid down around 300 million years ago became sandstone, which has been eroded and tinted a deep red by the presence of iron, and then sculpted by wind and water into fantastic shapes with names such as Chimney Rock, Bell Rock, and Cathedral Rock. The area around Sedona is the most visited in Arizona after the Grand Canyon.
