Waimea Canyon, Kauai

A helicopter is dwarfed by the magnificent Waimea Canyon

Waimea Canyon was carved through layers of lava flows by rivers and flooding from Mount Wai'ale'ale, one of the wettest places on earth. The Waimea River winds through the bottom of the chasm, over 3500 feet below. This image is one of my favourite prints, the subtleties in the shades of green and red combined with the mist give an amazing depth to the picture, and I love the rim lighting on the edges of the cliffs. The small white thing in the middle of the image is a tourist helicopter, which gives you an idea of the sheer size of the canyon.
