Antelope Island, Great Salt Lake, Utah
Antelope Island seems to float above the calm waters of Great Salt Lake. A flock of birds is typical of the teeming wildlife, mainly shorebirds and waterfowl, that are attracted to the brine flies that, together with brine shrimp and algae, are the only things that can live in the high salinity of Great Salt Lake. The level of the lake fluctuates, because it is so shallow. In the foreground is the cracked crusted area that is left when the water recedes.
