Barrel Racing

Barrel racing is traditionally a women’s rodeo event in which a cowgirl rides a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels. The barrel can be touched by horse or rider, but not knocked over, so a great deal depends on the skill of the horse at making tight turns at speed. Strangely, there is still a dress code for this event, and if the required cowboy hat falls off during the race, the rider will be fined! At the Calgary Stampede in 2006 this competitor ran a clean race. Pure speed is required to win, there are no judges and no subjective aspects to the competition.
