Broad Creek Bridge, Hilton Head, South Carolina

The 7.5 mile toll road was built to allow easy access to the southwest part of Hilton Head Island, avoiding the congested main road. The bridge crosses Broad Creek, a tidal marsh that separates the two parts of the island. The north end is an erosion remnant island, while the southern is a true barrier island. Broad Creek is an excellent place for bird watching and kayaking. At low tide raccoons, wading birds, and even deer venture out into the mud to feast on shellfish, insects, and cordgrass encrusted with sea salt.
