Loggerhead Turtle
Adult loggerhead turtles grow to an average weight of 200 lbs, and roughly 1 meter in length. They feed on mollusks, crustaceans, fish, and other marine animals. The Atlantic Loggerhead is found off the east coast of Canada and the US, and in the Mediterranean. The females nest on beaches, above the waterline, from late April through early September. The species is endangered worldwide due to loss of habitat through coastal development, shrimp fishing, gill netting and offshore oil and gas activities.
