Orangutan female

The large, intelligent, gentle red ape is one of man’s closest relatives, sharing 97% of the same DNA as humans. Their name, Orang Hutan, translates to “people of the forest”. Indigenous peoples of Indonesia and Malaysia thought the orangutan was simply a person hiding in the forest, avoiding having to work or becoming a slave. Orangutans are the only great apes that come from Asia, all others come from Africa. They are only found on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra, although fossil records suggest they once had a wider range. They live almost exclusively in trees, rarely coming down and walking on the ground, which they do with difficulty. All their food and water is found in treetops, and they make a nest each night in the trees for sleeping.
