Oriental Pied Hornbill (Anthraceros albirostris)
Oriental Pied Hornbill (Anthraceros albirostris). This is the smallest of the Asian hornbills. Its range is North India, South China, Southeast Asia, the Malay Peninsula, and Borneo. They prefer open habitat such as forest edges and clearings. The adult has a casque on top of its bill, smaller in the female. These hornbills eat fruit and insects, and play an important ecological role becase they disperse seeds that are too heavy for smaller birds to eat.
