Paintbrush Bud
The legend of the Indian Paintbrush was told by Native Americans. Once there was a boy who was smaller, weaker, and different from the rest of the children of the tribe. The shaman told the boy that he had a different gift from the others, and that his contributions to the tribe would be remembered long after everyone was gone. A dream-vision came to the boy once night, telling him to paint pictures of everything that happened to his friends and family in the tribe. The paintbrushes that he used to create beautiful pictures became the brightly coloured wildflowers that cover the fields and the hills.
This delicate bud will open to become a brilliant dot of scarlet in the countryside.
