Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus)

The Rainbow Lorikeet is a colourful Australasian parrot. They usually travel in pairs, joining with other birds to form large flocks. They feed mainly on pollen and nectar and are easily tamed. Widespread and common, they can be invasive pests, damaging fruit trees and crops and taking over food sources from other birds. In captivity Rainbow Lorikeets can live over 20 years, and are more demanding pets than other parrots. They are rambunctious and have a powerful bite, and they are also extremely messy birds.
