Silves Castle, Algarve, Portugal. Modern gardens in the partially restored castle. Although there has been a fortification on this site since the Phoenecians, the present structure was destroyed during the reconquest and rebuilt afterwards. In spite of frequent destruction and restoration, there are still vestiges of the original Moorish castle and a cistern that dates from Roman times.
