Sooneck Castle

In the 13th century Sooneck was the base for a notorious robber knight. The castle was destroyed by the overlord in 1282 and the wicked vassal was executed, but a new fortress was built in the 14th century. In the 19th century, Frederick William IV of Prussia and his brothers had the castle rebuilt for use as a hunting lodge. The ruined tower makes a romantic silhouette in the last light of the evening.
