Steptoe ButteSteptoe Butte is a quartzite butte that towers 3612 feet above the surrounding Palouse countryside. Now a State Park, native Americans called it the “power mountain”. If you journeyed to the butte, the mountain’s guardian spirit would bestow a gift of power. Today a road winds around the butte to the top, formerly the site of the Cashup Hotel, now a place to relax with a picnic and enjoy spectacular views over the Palouse to the west and south, and to the Bitterroot Mountains in the east. This image is copyright and may not be used without specific authorization.
