Striated heron (Butorides strata)

Striated Heron (Butorides strata), also known as Mangrove Heron or Little Heron. These pretty herons are found in wetlands in tropics from Africa to Japan and South America. Striated herons prefer to stand still at the water’s edge and wait to ambush prey. They mainly eat small fish and frogs, as well as aquatic insects. They may sometimes use bait, dropping a feather or leaf carefully on the water surface and catching fish that come to investigate.
