Teamwork, the young cowboys

Wild Pony Racing is an introduction to serious rodeo competition for youngsters aged 8 to 12. Girls compete as well as boys. It is a timed event that requires teamwork as well as skill to catch the pony and hold him still enough for one member of the team to get on his back. Rules vary at different rodeos. In some events the pony is saddled and ridden around a barrel. At other venues the pony is ridden bareback and the rider must stay on for at least two jumps, or ride him across a finish line.
