Thirlestane Castle from the south east

The rose garden and the extensively remodelled central keep of Thirlestane Castle. Renaissance influences, including the ogee roof and the small turrets can be seen in the Scottish Baronial Style of this important family seat of the powerful Maitland Family. The walls of the original keep are 13 feet thick.
