Detail of the bronze sculpture of the National Monument, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia The statue was commissioned from Felix de Weldon to commemorate the years of fighting for freedom from communist insurgents after Malaysian independence. One of the last acts of terrorism by the communists was to blow up the statue, but it was successfully repaired.
