White trillium, Trillium grandiflorum
White trilliums are also known as large-flowered trilliums, snow trilliums, showy trilliums, grand trilliums, and white wake-robins. They flower from April to June in rich, moist woodland, the flower turns a soft pink as it ages. Picking trilliums stresses the plants and can kill them. If the leaves are detached from the bulb, the plant must take all its nutrients from the bulb for the whole year until the next spring when it can send up more leaves. On the other hand, the plants transplant well if you are careful to dig deeply enough to get the bulb. Trillium plants can live for 25 years or longer, and do not usually flower until they are several years old.
